OVOP Kyrgyzstan is a group dedicated to the sustainable development of the economies and communities of rural Kyrgyzstan. We produce environmentally-friendly products that meet global standards by using only local and natural resources and implementing strict quality-control techniques. We are a social business group that connects rural community-based producers’ associations to global markets. Further, we support the development of rural Kyrgyzstan in compliance with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
The OVOP movement in Kyrgyzstan was founded as a project of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Government of Japan’s international aid and development agency, and it started in 2007 in the Issyk-Kul region. Activities began in earnest in 2010, with 42 groups and about 480 people participating in the One Village One Product Movement. Since then, we have grown significantly, and now we are expanding our activities throughout Kyrgyzstan, producing and selling products in collaboration with more than 3,500 producers. We conduct business activities and production management to produce high-quality products while protecting producers and the environment.
Our working style
The main focus of our working style is empowering local communities by creating a decentralized production system. We deliver raw materials to producers and collect finished products, while helping producers improve their working environment, reduce workload, improve communication skills and save money. Through these efforts, we are building an implementation system that allows producers to earn income while staying in their village without going to big cities or abroad to work. Products collected from the village undergo consistent quality inspections, and a system is in place to ensure that only products that meet inspection standards are shipped.
Our products are made exclusively with local and natural materials and organically and naturally grown agricultural products of Kyrgyzstan. Our felt products are made from Merino wool, which grows in the great nature of Kyrgyzstan, and colored with completely natural dyes made with local materials. Food is also particular about using ingredients from Kyrgyzstan, and do not use any food additives or imported products.
